Amethyst - the February Birthstone

If it's your birthday this month, you will probably know that your birthstone is Amethyst. This beautiful stone can vary in colour from deep purple to light lavender or even pink. Amethyst was used by different ancient civilisations and always valued very highly. The ancient Greeks believed that if somebody wore an amethyst or drunk from an amethyst cup, they would not get intoxicated. In fact, the word amethyst means 'sober'.
It is also believed that amethysts bring on pleasant dreams and some people like to keep an amethyst stone near their bed or under their pillow. Generally it is believed to bring calm and inner peace.

Corbico Jewellery had a stall at the West Wickham Wednesday market this week and as usual, I had a good look at my fellow market trader's stalls, which resulted in me taking a fancy to a small metal bear mounted on an amethyst stone. It's only little, but there is something unusual about it, so it has now taken pride of place on my desk, and where I hope it will bring me calm and inner peace!

Of course here at Corbico Jewellery, we have items featuring this beautiful stone: We stock this beautiful amethyst stone macrame bracelet adorned with a crystal glitterball bead.

Personally, I love the different shades of violet and the translucency of this stone, and I hope to stock many more items in our boutique featuring this gem.
